Can someone recommend a good docking station?

PostWed Dec 04, 2013 7:30 am

I've got bare SSD and want to use them for infrequently accessed data.

I'm tired of using a USB cable. While it works, I want a more elegant solution. I'm not interested in housings as these disks will be used at best 1x or 2x per year. So a SSD docking station seems a good choice.

Features I want:
Cost
Simplicity
Durability (lot of remove/insert cycles)
USB-2 interface (or better)
3.5 and 2.5

Recommendations? I'm considering about this one:http://www.inateck.com/inateck-fdu3c-2-usb-3-0-hdd-docking-station-dock-klonen-fur-2-5-3-5-zoll-sataiiiiii/

Nobody paid attention?
I have seen an external enclosure in Inateck.
As an idiot of those hard drives, can somebody tell me the difference between external enclosure and docking station?

I have two of these in the multi-interface versions (USB 3.0/FireWire 800/FireWire 400/eSATA ) and they work great for me - the flexibility of the port options is good for onset too:

I have no experience with Inateck's sorry but it looks like it's USB3 only? The dock i linked has USB3/FW800/400 and eSATA all on the one enclosure which i really like. Otherwise, i'm sure the perform pretty similar.

Usually enclosure implies the disk is fully enclosed, whereas a dock lets you easily slide the disk in and out like a card reader.

Yeah, original poster is talking about a dock reader although mentioned the word enclosure, i just followed suit (probably shouldn't have). But we're talking docking stations like the thread title.

It doesn't matter.
Someone recommend me a external enclosure, it seems that external enclosure and docking station are same in their function.
