Best Card for Live Game Play

PostThu Dec 12, 2013 9:40 pm

I have a nice Mac Pro setup with a video wall controlled by my Mac, and I'd like to play video games on it.

The video wall is just an extension of my desktop, so it's effectively just a big screen. I would like to take advantage of the wall for gaming and hook up an xbox or playstation.

So, my question is what is the best video capture card for the Mac Pro? Particularly, which card introduces the least amount of latency so as not to hamper the gaming experience?

The idea is I could play games and see the game in a video capture window, and perhaps stretch the window out to over multiple screens on the wall. I'm not terribly interested in capturing the game, as much as I am just using the setup to play on the big video wall attached to the Mac.

Not sure if this is realistic, but would appreciate any thoughts/help.

Thanks for any help!

For example, might any of these products fit the bill?

DeckLink 4k Extreme

or

Intensity Pro.

Are there any blackmagic USB 3 solutions that might be "real time"/low latency enough to fit the bill?

Like the Intensity Shuttle?

The Intensity Pro should fit the bill!

I'm using the Intensity Shuttle USB3 on my PC and I have played games through it...a LOT actually. I was recording my games to show game glitches and errors, (which in COD there are plenty)

I would assume the PCI version of this would work even better as you have a more direct/speedy connection.

Thanks Sean. So do you think the Intensity Pro is lower latency than the DeckLink? Or is more of an issue of it being just fine as is, so why pay more?

But thank you regarding the USB3 shuttle being fast enough; that's very useful to know.

So you don't find the lag on 1st person shooters to be noticeable even on the USB version...

Thanks great, thanks!
