4k StudioPro --> Recording HDMI feed in OBS best practice?

PostFri Jul 29, 2022 9:35 pm

Hi all,

I do some video recording, but not a ton -- my general use case for the BM 4K Studio Pro Camera is for high-end Zoom feeds for which they work great. I use the HDMI out from the camera with an XLR mic through an Elgato Camlink and use that for my audio/video feed for Zoom sessions.

What I'm less sure about is capturing the same video feed in OBS. Going this route I don't use the USB feed for recording to a hard drive.

Is there anything wrong with going this route? It seems to work fine for me.

What am less sure about is -- are any of the output settings reflected in the video capture? For example, FPS (Frames per Second) -- there are a number of settings for this but I'm not clear if any of those have any effect on the HDMI out stream?

Again, OBS lets me choose an FPS value to record in...does the FPS choice on the camera have any relation to the record setting?

Thanks,
Tom

Recording will always be better if recorded at native frame rate and resolution.

Best practice would be to record Braw from the camera to an SSD.

Good Luck
