Broadcast Converter & Old Cable Systems

PostMon Dec 16, 2013 6:14 pm

I will admit up front I assumed that there was in terms of control/status of the broadcast converter.

I am looking to have the converter take HDMI 480p and dump it out into 480i NTSC land for distribution on the vintage yet seemingly irreplaceable CATV network we have with a major cable company.

I've yet to have any success getting any signal out of the NTSC/PAL output... Have I assumed completely wrong?

Ok, so, I was being a bit dense. I guess I need to read the labels a bit more before jumping to the forums.

Composite in works like a champ, and it converts like a charm to SDI...

I just don't have a good way to get S-Video on BNC to composite. Any suggestions? I was hopeful that since it ingests NTSC, it would output it as well. Again, I know, assuming something doesn't make it true or possible.

Another interesting condition that I've noticed... And admittedly it will sound a bit Rube Goldberg..

I've got a HDMI 480p60 signal pumped in from a Teradek HDMI decoder.

On the SDI output the 480i signal is rolling, like it doesn't lock. I've tried the output on a cheap 720p HDTV, and it doesn't roll.

If I switch it up to 720p60 it doesn't roll.

I have the SDI output piped to a Teradek encoder pushing through (feed the URL to VLC)
