Accessing the BM software

PostTue Dec 24, 2013 10:40 pm

Received my BM Pocket today. I cannot access the BM software of find the Davinci software

The SD card that came with the camera is not readable by my PC (windows 7) - just says unreadable

If I insert it in the camera it is not recognised

When to the BM site. Tried to register and download software - nothing happens when I click on download - absolutely nothing

Same when I try to send a support request

I managed to download the manual - brief as it is, formatted an SD card and it was recognised by the camera which is fine, but I am reluctant/unable to go much further

Thanks. Deleted cookies and website allowed me to download software

Now, any ideas why my system won't read the SDcard that came with the camera? Where is the Da Vinci software? Hidden on the card?

You can download DaVinci Resolve Lite and everything else here: http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support

Select your OS, the product series "DaVincie Resolve" and "DaVinci Resolve Lite" in the third/final step. The software is not included on the SD card coming with the Pocket Camera; the card only contains the manual and a (probably older) version of the camera software (firmware upgrader).

In general: I do not recommend using the software on the sd card, even if it works. My BMPCC came a couple of days ago with the newest firmware installed on the camera but with the older version (without RAW) on the sd card. Since I did not know, that the software does not have an upgrade routine itself and even allows to down-grade existing firmware versions (at present time, you have to download the newest camera software from the internet manually, as described above and uninstall the old version on your computer before installing the new one!) I loaded the old firmware from the card into my camera, overwriting the new firmware in the camera. After re-upgrading with the software from the internet things worked well, again...

Thanks so much for all replies.

How can I find out what firmware I have installed? I do not want to upgrade unless I have to.

I have some concerns about the battery. I fully charged the camera. Shot about 15 seconds of footage. Turned off camera noting at least 80% charge but the next day the camera would not power up unless connected to the mains charger.

The camera tool will that the firmware in the camera is up to date, if you download the newest camera software online and the corresponding firmware is already in the camera. As far as I know, there is way to figure out the version of the firmware installed. Therefore, always make sure you are using the latest camera software from the BM website. This way, you will avoid unintentional downgrading (as I did :-)

As to the battery: the values are sometimes relatively "confusing". After charging and discharging the battery several times (it should reach it's full capacity then), things might get a little bit better. From experience: The battery should last 30-60 minutes, depending on your consumption (recording time, display brightness, etc.) when fully charged at full capacity. But do not expect exact percentage values until (hopefully/maybe) the next firmware upgrade :-)
