LUT output via SDI

PostFri Nov 11, 2022 3:43 pm

I just got a 5" 12G Video Assist Monitor. I connected a Sony A7SIII and are getting signal to the monitor via HDMI no problem. I also have a LUT I need to use and I have it selected it in the LUT panel, which displays perfectly on the 5" 12G Monitor. I have a 17" Panasonic monitor that I am using, connected to the Micro SDI which is deploying the image without the LUT. I need the signal out of the SDI to also have the LUT for client preview.
I have searched the menus for an option that allows me to display a LUT on output. I can't find it. Also searched the forum but cannot find an answer either. Apologies if this has bed answered before.
This should be a basic thing to do. Am I wrong?. No LUT output from the Blackmagic monitor?.
Forgot to mention, 1080p input and 1080p output in case it's relevant.

The problem is, the SDI out is a signal pass-through - so there is no processing possible.

As a workaround you could buy a Micro Converter BiDirectional SDI/HDMI 12G, which is able to load a LUT and apply that onto the output signal.

Yes this is lacking in the Video Assists. It is possible with SmallHD monitors and so should be a feature of these devices too, like it is on their cameras. The solution though, mentioned by Robert, is relatively cheap.

I do not agree with you. It is not a Pass trough loop out. Because then it would not be able to play out video files from the VA ;)

So it is a FPGA based output. But probably no processing power left to apply LUT to the output..

Small HD and Atomos both do have this and is working very OKE.

Yeah, you are probably right. So in theory BMD could implement this as a feature if the hardware could do it.
