NTSC SD Drake PEG

PostFri Mar 10, 2023 3:08 am

I am feeding Drake PEG plus for a spectrum TV channel. The cable company, Spectrum, need this at 480i at 29.97hz. I sending the feed to thr drake with a DeckLink PCI card. Will the deck link monitor HD support 29.97 SD if so I do get it to do so? If not what card can I use? The Drake PEG has and sdi connection.

Hello Timothy. Since nobody offered to help I thought I would try. I have no experience with the encoder you mentioned but looking up the specifications I see no problem with the Decklink Mini Monitor feeding a proper signal. Often confused, 480i in our world is 59.94 fields or 29.97 fps. That is a standard definition standard. So if you see 480i with 29.97 fps it is the same thing as 59.94i. The Mini Monitor is SDI or Serial Digital Interface and not composite video. I hope this helps.

Regards. Gary

Thank you Gary. Yes, this is what I had thought however. When the engineer inspects the feed the resolution is fine 480i however the 59.95 is no good. Today my representative from spectrum got back with and they need to see 29.97hz on the Drake and with the Decklink card I don't think thats going to happen or at least I don't know how to make that happen. Below is the quote in the email from my rep today. I am not sure what equipment can do this. I have seen where the bluefish444 reports a resolution of at 29.97, perhaps that's the way I need to go.

The order I have is for standard definition not high definition thus we are limited to 480i resolution. As a reminder the issue we are having is not the quality of the picture, it’s the frame rate. I know normal frame rate is 30 hz but we require 29.97 HZ. If this can be adjusted we should be good.

Something is lost in traslation, 480i is 59.94 hz (cycles), 480p is 29.97 hz. In North America those are the two choices. 480i at 29.97 hz would be 15 frames per second.

Good Luck
