Desktop Video Utility - no desktop video

PostMon Mar 20, 2023 3:10 pm

Hello,

I've been trying to use my UltraStudio Mini Recorder unit and I keep getting the Message "No Desktop Video Device Recorder".

Computer: Macmini6,2
OSX: MacOS High Sierra
Desktop Video Utility: 10.4.3

Would any one have an idea why the Mini Recorder is not connecting

With regards!

Could be a 32bit/64bit problem which is a combination of hardware/software old/new, the drivers are 64bit but your OS is 32bit, or the firmware of the Ultrastudio Mini Recorder does not match with the current system.
Best is to start a ticket at BMD support, by sending them an email, where you explain everything in detail.
is the Ultrastudio Mini Recorder the 3G version ? (new is Thunderbolt 3) (old is Thunderbolt 2)
Thunderbolt 3 also needs a Thunderbolt 3 cable and not USB-C connectors look the same, ony the Thunderbolt 3 has a Thunder icon on it, USB-C has not.
Also with Thunderbolt 2: Thunderbolt 2 is not Mini DisplayPort , although the connectors are the same in both cases, so check all the specifications, of the the things you're using.

Many thanks for the quick response.

I am using a thunderbolt cable, as you see the light on the mini recorder is ON. I’ve tried to use it on both a Macmini6,2 and a MacBookPro12,1. Same error message.

A month ago I’ve bought the most recent BlackMagic recorder and the issue I had was that the unit would not turn ON. It did not work with my MacBook Pro since it does not have a Thunderbolt 3 port. I also tried connecting a thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adaptor. Same problem, the light on the recorder did not turned on.

Since I do not plan to get a more recent computer I then decided to get an older version of the recorder hoping both computers would be able to connect to it.

Make sure you are the administrator of the OS.
Try with another port if possible. Avoid using a hub for the purpose of testing.
On Mac, make sure they haven’t ignored the Mac OS security telling them they need to “Allow” extensions during the install System prefs - Security & Privacy-General - “Allow apps downloaded from - App Store and identified devs - System software from developer “Blackmagic”. . . . may need restart after changing Security settings.
On some Macs need to use short cables.
On some computers you need to “allow” BlackMagic Desktop software through the Firewall.

Excellent, moving along.

The mini recorder is now being recognize. My camera (Sony NX5U) is now set to SDI at 720p. I want the recorded file to be 720p High Definition.

The mini recorder is only showing 1080PsF as a possible choice. The Sony camera can either output at 720p or 1080i. Not at 1080p.

I’ve started Quicktime and made sure BlackMagic was selected and the image is not showing up. I’ve tried both the SDI and the HDMI and same results.

Is there something else I need to set.

Kind regards!

Excellent, it now working.

Quicktime was not showing the camera image. I’ve disconnected and reconnected the thunderbolt cable and it’s now showing.

I will do further test tomorrow.

I thought I would have been able to use from different file format (ProRes proxy, ProRes LT, ProRes and ProRes HD).

I moving along thanks again for your help.

Regards!
