BMCC6K - Project frame rate limitation

The maximum fps for 6K open gate is 36, however, in record settings, I can’t go past 30fps. It also occurs with 6K DCI which can go up to 48fps. I tried all codecs and qualities, nothing has changed. 6K 2.4:1 works as expected.

I have the latest firmware 8.3.2 installed.

I hope I’m not doing something stupid.

Maximum sensor frame rate dependent on resolution and codec selected. Project frame rates of 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 and 60 fps supported.

Ok, now it’s clear. The max fps is supported when off speed recording is activated.

Hi. I have the same. But it seems to me that this happened after updating the camera to firmware 8.3.2.

There seems to be a misunderstanding how these things do work.

There are two different frame rate settings.

1) PROJECT FRAME RATE (PFR) - defines the frame rate of the footage recorded onto your media

If you record ON SPEED then the camera will read out the sensor at the exact same frame rate as it will write the footage.

2) OFF SPEED FRAME RATE (OSFR) - defines the frame rate of the sensor read out
To be used you need to activate OFF SPEED RECORDING

If the OSFR is higher than the PFR you will get slow motion, if it is lower you will get a speed up.

PFR settings are always fixed to either 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 or 60 fps

Three examples:
OFF SPEED RECORDING = OFF
PROJECT FRAME RATE = 24 -> sensor readout in 24p, footage is 24p

OFF SPEED RECORDING = ON
PROJECT FRAME RATE = 24 / OFF SPEED FRAME RATE = 48 -> sensor readout in 48p, footage is 24p resulting in 50% slow motion

OFF SPEED RECORDING = ON
PROJECT FRAME RATE = 24 / OFF SPEED FRAME RATE = 12 -> sensor readout in 12p, footage is 24p resulting in 200% speed up
