Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro Color/Brillance

PostWed Jan 17, 2024 9:08 pm

Hello friends

I've just had my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro in my hand for the first minute
and there are a lot of questions.

I still need to purchase a course or workshop to learn everything about the camera,
but for now I need a little help to get started.
I have an image section with the EOS 90D and the BMPCC6KP targeted.

The EOS 90D takes a beautiful image, strong colors and brilliance.

The BMPCCK6P produces a false and weak picture, I am extremely disappointed.
All adjustments in ISO, aperture and color do not help to get a good picture.

I then found the "video" / "video extreme" and "Film" recording modes.
The Film mode is very bad, I read something that this mode is neutral and has to be edited
with color grading in Davinci Resolve. Is that understood correctly?

I think the video mode is very good for quick and easy recording, but here too the BMPCCK6P
doesn't come close to the EOS 90D.

I don't understand it, all the videos I see of examples are beautiful,
only my camera remains pale and colorless.
I've attached a photo with the comparison.

Can someone briefly and concisely explain to me how I did with the PMPCC6KP
get better color fidelity?

The EOS 90D does the right chair very well in gray, the left chair is nice warm wood
and without adjustment a little too much shine.

The BMPCCK6P takes a picture that is not very brilliant or deep

Thank you for your help

Hello,

I assume that you are recording in Blackmagic RAW, or in "Film". The material that comes out of the camera is deliberately kept flat so that you can utilise the entire dynamic range of the sensor. Simply put, you are then in the centre of your dynamic range. This is one of the differences between cosnumer and movie cameras. The material then has to be processed. This gives you full flexibility and control over the material. Colour grading is quite demanding, but Blackmagic offers very good instructions free of charge. The operating instructions for the camera are also very good. LUTs are an easy way to make the material look the way you want. These are also described in detail. The EOS does all this internally, with the disadvantage that the material is less flexible. You can also apply LUTs to the material in the camera so that they are embedded in the material, so that finished material comes out of the camera, just as you are used to from the EOS.

I'll recommend to read the camera user manual first:

https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/ ... Manual.pdf

The PDF contains a German section too.

I recommend reading:

page 532 ... Blackmagic RAW
page 577 ... Aufnahme Einstellungen
page 584 ... Monitoring Einstellungen
page 609 ... 3D-LUTs
page 632 .. Arbeiten mit Blackmagic-RAW-Dateien

A helpful thread with someone having the same question as you have:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=123911

And finally, if you prefer to get help in German - you might have a look at the German slashcam forum and maybe join it -> https://www.slashcam.de/forum/index.php
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Thank you all for the information

I am convinced that I bought the right product.
I read and understood the RAW system in advance, but my idea was easier to believe.

Colorgrading is a science I see...

Now I unexpectedly have to learn a lot and understand connections. This will take a lot of time but will certainly be a good and interesting path.

Thank you Robert for your great work.

I just looked at the topic briefly, i will visit there again later.
Also thanks for the tip about the German forum..

I feel exactly the same as asflyboy in this post, it's a lot of information and I have to learn a lot of understanding for working with color grading.

Great.
I just saw that in the thread from 2020 I linked to my LUT for the older color science Gen 4.
I made a version for the actual color science Gen 5 your camera is using:
