Choppy footage with iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max - Apple Log

PostFri May 31, 2024 10:22 am

I have started to use the iPhone 14 Pro, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max for online courses. A few weeks ago I filmed with the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max and had no issues filming Apple Log h.265, 25p in 4K directly onto the iPhones. I´m not using SSDs.

2 days ago I started to film again and realised choppy footage when I opened it in Davinci Resolve. First I thought it might be a rendering issue but later realised it´s actualy in the footage. So even if I watch it on the iPhone it´s choppy. It looks like frames are dropped although I had the app set to warning and later even told the app to stop recording when frames are being dropped. No warning, no stopped videos.

I updated to the latest iOS (17.5.1) and there´s no newer update for the blackmagic app than what I have installed (1.4.000041)

It seems like anything after 1 minute gets choppy. I went from filming 45minutes to 10 minutes and to 5 minutes clips. Even in the 5 minutes Clips it gets choppy.

Please help!

I ran into this and I saw this mentioned in a couple other places. In my case, it happened 8:30 in with these settings

iPhone 15 Pro
Local Storage
HEVC 4K BT.2020 HLG
50fps
Blackmagic Cam 1.4.000041
Mono USB C audio

I started editing it frame by frame to see if I could repair it, and i found that the stuttering followed the pattern

1,2,3,8,5,6,7,12,9,10,11,16,...

Basically, every fourth frame shifted back by 4 frames. So it looks like it could be fixed with like ffmpeg or something maybe.

Thanks for your answer. Ffmpeg doesn’t tell me anything. Would I have to convert the files? Reinstalling the app will be next for me. Thought about it but didn’t do it yet.

If you have any other solution please let me know. We can’t be the only ones with this issue.
