which card / box for batch transcodes

PostMon Nov 05, 2012 1:27 am

Hi all, I'm researching which device would best suit me as a data wrangler.

I'm thinking on basing the system on the new mac mini ( high end models bench at 13k, which is just under low end mac pro systems ) mount that inside the new sonnet xmac server tray so I can mount a SAS connector for arriraw, which still leaves a full size PCI slot & also a thunderbolt connector for some form of hardware acceleration.

Ideally whatever gets used can handle batching .r3d or .ari plus all the other flavours of footage that keep popping up.

Thoughts ?

You don't mention the application you are planning to use to do he transcoding. If its Resolve the MacMini is not suitable. Please refer to the Resolve config guide on th post production forum.
