PS3 on iMAC 27 (2011 later)

PostThu Nov 08, 2012 10:44 pm

Hey. I have a 27" iMac i5 of 2012 and want to use its screen to play PS3. I have heard a billion different things about how to/not to do this. Is there a thunderbolt capture on the market that it's going to do what I'm asking for?

Hello,

None of the Blackmagic Products will do that. Furthermore I don't know of any other product (from other manufacturers) that will do that either. I don't think the screen on the iMac is accessible like that.

It used to be possible with the older iMacs, i had a late 2009 i7 27" and my girlfriend still has one:

http://www.kanexlive.com/xd (check specs and compatibility - basically says the same as the apple article)

Haven't read anything about the thunderbolt models sorry. I think Josh is probably correct. Plus, depending on what games you play i would be concerned about the lag. For fighting games every frame counts, and people went so far as to discover that the PS3 has an extra frame of lag compared to xbox. Who knows what the iMac screen would do with processing etc.
