A player that will interface with Decklink Mini monitor

PostFri Sep 04, 2015 8:03 pm

Hello. I am hoping someone can offer up a solution. I have a Mac tower that I want to install the Decklink mini monitor in. I need to play clips out of this Mac and spit them out the Decklink in HdSdi. I can make the clips any flavor ( Mxf, MP4 , etc.) . The clips are already edited, so I don't need an edit program like final cut or avid. Just a player that will interface with the Decklink. The HdSdi output will be fed into a router and the clip play out for air. Any ideas on a player? I was told the VLC player will not interface with the card.
Thank you.

I thought that VLC did work in version 2.1 and up. The free options are the included Media Express, or (if you are technology savvy) Caspar CG. There are paid options as well like Renewed Vision ProPresenter (w/ SDI add-on), Softron OnTheAir, Media Looks Direct Take, etc.

Thanks Chad,
The people at black magic tech support told me that VLC will work in the record mode but not the playback mode. They kept recommending that I put media composer or final cut on the machine, but I don't need an editor or the extra cost. All I need to do is play a clip back and have it spit out the HdSdi output. There has to be a simple clip player out there like QuickTime or VLC that will interface with the Decklink monitor.
Thanks.

If you make the files in the right format then as Chad said, Media Express will play them out.

Refreshing this topic as I also need a decent software player program with output to UltraStudio Mini Monitor....
After a quick search, it seems that today (09/2019), we still have no output with VLC 3.0.x, and for my purposes Media Express is somewhat limited (both in features and codec support)
Other suggestions ?
Thanks

OBS can play out to DeckLink cards. Under the Tools menu you will see Decklink Output options.
You can even trigger the playback with StreamDeck and companion or other remote network cammands.

Thank you.

The free version of Switch does not support BM device playback. Only available on the $499 version.
