Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 Blank video files

PostMon May 06, 2013 4:48 pm

I had a shoot this last week and it was my first time using the Hyperdeck Shuttle. I was recording HDMI out of the 5D MKIII. I did lots of testing before the shoot and made sure to record a backup in camera in case of any issues. The very first file recorded without issue. Everything else seemed to work fine until I looked at my files. All of the files are varying sizes as you would expect, but the media duration on all but he first file shows "00:00". I've attempted to open them in Adobe Premiere, Da Vinci Resolve Light, Quicktime, VLC, and Blacmagic Media Express all with no luck.

I still have the files on the SanDisk Extreme SSD as well as the copied files on my Promise Pegasus. The issue is the same in both locations. Like I said, I recorded a backup on the 5D MKIII, so my footage isn't lost, but it was a green screen shoot, and I really want the ProRes 422 files for keying instead of the compressed h264s.

Anyone else have this issue? Is there any way to recover the data?

I just had the same problem. I've wasted half a day chasing this problem. I connected a video monitor to the SDI loop out just to make sure that video is passing all the way through the Shuttle, and it appears to be doing just that.

My last resort is to reformat the SSD and try again. (I have been deleting files and emptying to the trash). I am shooting test footage, with dozens of small files, and while the Shuttle seems happy to create every file I request, the lengths are always zero (as in 00:00). The file sizes are 8MB-12MB, which is probably the minimum quicktime needs to display one 1080p24 frame of nothing.

I noticed the same problem. A couple of days ago I was shooting some test footage in 24P uncompressed. Then I switched the camera to 30P and continued shooting tests. When I got to Resolve, nothing, just black. The files had timecode and played but displayed only black.

Since then, I reformat the SSD before shooting and do not change frame rates or mix formats. And I have not had that problem again. Fortunately for me this was just test footage so I didn't make an attempt to recover the footage.
