BM Video Assist to record macbook pro screen?

Hey,
Is it possible to plug the thunderbolt/HDMI output from a Macbook Pro laptop into the BM Video Assist in order to record the screen?
I've read in another forum that this depends on the computer, because the video assist expects some specific video output, but I wasn't able to find any information about whether it's possible with the MBP. Has anyone been able to try this out?
Basically I just want to record whatever is shown on the computer, as if it was recording what you see on a monitor.
I know it's possible to do screen recordings in software, but I run very CPU intensive programs so running a screen recorder is way too slow, so I'm looking for a hardware option that can take the load off of the computer for the video recording part.
If this is not possible with the Video Assist, can you please recommend some other hardware that can do this?
Thanks!
