Corsair Neutron GTX 240
Posted: Thu Sep 13, 2012 8:07 pmCan I buy the HyperDeck Shuttle2 and just plug in a Corsair neutron GTX 240 and have about 40 minutes of uncompressed data from my Canon HV40 camcorder, working with my laptop?

DNxHD was developed by Avid. I use Sony Vegas Pro 11 for editing.
Is this compatible?
For that matter, can I use the HyperDeck Shuttle 2 with Vegas 11?

Posted: Fri Sep 14, 2012 8:06 pmIf you are using it to feed SDI into the computer then yes. You can download the DNxHD QT decoder which will allow you to use the files, but I don't know from personal experience if Vegas will take that.

The DNxHD files are compatible with Vegas (which is what I use). Just install the Avid DNxHD codec - which is a free download from Avid.

I put the SSD into an eSATA linked docking port and transfer it using SDI.
E.G., Uspeed Superspeed USB 3.0 & eSATA to SATA External Hard Drive Docking Station
OR: Thermaltake BlacX eSATA USB Docking Station
I download the Avid DNxHD codec to my laptop.
I use the DNxHD codec on my laptop to reduce the file size to 1/5 of the original.
(I don't know how to utilize the codec in this process)
I store on an external hard drive using a USB 3 port.
I edit with Sony Vegas 11.
I capture 21 minutes of uncompressed HDMI data from the camera.

Posted: Sat Sep 15, 2012 10:18 pmOr you just record to DNxHD direct in the Hyperdeck. Save a lot of space in the process. The file will just open up in the timeline in Vegas as long as you have installed the Avid codecs. Otherwise you are adding additional steps/time/storage space - which unless you are really attached to having uncompressed hanging around you likely won't miss. The 220Mbps DNxHD file is (for me anyway) overkill for most everything I get up to anyway... wish BMD would implement an even more compressed option.
Remember that currently you have to use Macdrive ($49) or equivalent to be able to format the drives and to read them in a PC. When the ExFAT compatability is implemented (sometime in September) you'll be able to access/format the drives in a PC without MacDrive.
