H.264 Pro Recorder

Hi,
We are looking for a HD capture card which can take HDMI/DVI input (1080p50 or 1080p60) and record the video with good compression.

1) Please suggest if 'H.264 Pro Recorder' is best suited for this purpose.

2) Our application is built with C# and supports DirectX-DirectShow. If H.264 is hardware encoder, then should we just receive the data from the card and save it without applying any software compression?

3) What is the advantage of 'DeckLink 3D Extreme' over 'H.264 Pro Recorder'?

Looking forward to your reply eagerly.

Best Regards,
Siva Vageesan

If you want a box that will capture directly to H.264 then the ProRecorder is what you are looking for. If you are looking for something to go to an intermediary format or some other, "lesser" compressed format, then any of our capture boards would work.

Using a custom app for either will be possible, feel free to check out our SDK, or you can stick to DirectShow.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for your reply.

I got the H.264 pro recorder now and when I try with my software (which uses DirectShow) to capture video in H.264 format, it is not working.

But If I use the Blackmagic Media Express application, I'm able to capture good quality HD (1920x1080) video.

1) What is the problem here? Is H.264 Pro Recorder works only with Media Express or Blackmagic SDK only?
2) No DirectShow support now? When is it expected?
3) Can you provide me the Blackmagic SDK so that I can use it for capture?

My intention is to record high quality HD video for medical purpose. Kindly help to sort this issue.

Best Regards,

Not sure exactly. Though I know those both do work as you've discovered.

Is there none? I thought there was, but I don't have graphedit in front of me. Are there no capture filters? Remembering of course that you are still responsible for wrapping the file. I've asked for clarification on this, but it's Saturday over in Aus, so it will be a few days at least.

Its available for free on our website. Just download the Desktop Video SDK.

Hi Joshua,

Is the Desktop Video SDK still available? I couldn't see it at the provided URL.

Thanks,
Anton.

Hey Anton,

In the URL Josh provided, it's actually called the DeckLink SDK. That SDK is for all Desktop Video products.

I am in the same situation than Anton was and stuck to the same problem.
Is there a DirectShow filter to interact with the H.265 recorder and where can I find it?

many thanks

I don't believe there is a Directshow filter for the ProRecorder.... which is why the H.264 output from the ATEM TVS (which has an in-built H.264 encoder) is not accessible to many of the standard streaming software (such as FMLE / Wirecast).

I would love it if there were such a Directshow driver/filter for this.

I'm looking into using the Decklink SDK with the H.264 Pro Recorder, but none of the samples included seem to work with it.

Has anyone had more luck than me?

Very interested in this.
But I can not buy the ProRecorder without being sure it would fit the SDK.

Also, the documentation of the latest SDK claims this:
in DeckLink API > Capture: "Streaming encoder functionality is supported by certain DeckLink devices such as the H.264 Pro Recorder."

Is it supposed to work with the SDK? Will this work both on Linux and Windows?
