Flickering shooting ProRes

PostMon Dec 09, 2013 6:49 am

My concern while shooting with the BMPCC is the flickering that lights give off, I shot a few test shots (Really quick and fast grade so not official tests) but just a night out shooting

Tried posting a URL link but it won't let me.

Tech specs: Filmed with available lighting at 1600 ASA
180 degree shutter
and aperture set at f/2.6
using a Lumix 14mm MFT lens going handheld.

What frame rate where you shooting at? 24p? 25p? 30p?

What frequency is the mains power where you are? 50Hz? 60Hz?

The flickering only seems to appear on the fairy lights. So it must be due to the way they are powered.

Sorry forgot to leave the frame rate, was shooting at 24p. I think I found the reason to be because they are LED lights and LEDs usually cause flickering in video! Thanks mate!

Yup. If they are cheap LEDs they will probably flicker.

Try 144 degree shutter with LED lights. It should eliminate the flicker.
