Rec Crash on Ursa

Hey all,
I'm reaching out to see if anyone has encountered a similar issue that I've been experiencing with my Ursa Mini G2.

During recording sessions, I've noticed an intermittent problem where the camera fails to respond when I attempt to stop recording. This issue seems to occur once every five shots or so. The timecode/record count freezes, the indicator stays red, and the camera becomes unresponsive to any other functions.

The only solution I've found so far is to manually reboot the camera, which is frustrating because I won't know if its failed until the end of a shot, and then telling everyone we have to re do (the frozen shot doesn't get recorded). I've swapped out the cables, but worry that the USB port on my camera is wearing down, however this can still occur if the camera is not touched and start-recorded wirelessly. My cam is about 3yrs old now

I've been recording straight to a USB using the recommended Samsung drive.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I don't use SSD so I don't have any personal experience with this fault.

I vaguely remember a bug that sounded a lot like this a few versions of firmware ago. Are you on the current firmware for the camera? Have you tried BMD support?

Also test another drive, SSD´s do not last for ever sadly.

I'll give BMD a shout. Its the latest firmware and hard drive is brand new, bought it a few weeks ago.

What exact type of Samsung drive is it?

its a Samsung portable SSD T5 1tb

Regardless you’re best to go with cfast cards. Despite BMD’s insistence that SSD’s are the way to go they do seem to fail at an alarming rate conspired with cfast.

It is sounding like the USB port to me.
I never use that port for SSD because of the risk of damaging the port because of that location of the port, does not feel safe to me.
Can you still connect to the camera from a computer and check firmware?

I had the same issue with my Ursa 12k.
It only happened once. After I turned the camera off and then back on it worked normally but the footage I was recording when the camera locked up was lost.

I usually use a Samsung Shield from the usb port.
I have not had problems with my solid state drives but usb c cables do not last long. I have had several that deliver about 900MB/sec but drop to 200 or even 20 MB/s.
If anyone can recommend a reliable usb c cable I would appreciate it.

I have had issues knocking the cable and disconnecting it. I have almost eliminated this issue with a short cable and securing the drive properly.

The convenience of editing from the c drive and the faster speeds on the camera are positives.
Even when combining my two Cfast cards the Samsung Shield is faster. If my Cfast cards were faster I might use them instead.

Two cables are known to be reliable.

My preference is the Kondor Blue. Knock on wood, I never had issues with them.

I have ordered the Kondor Blue from Amazon. The only AngelBird ones I found were too long or I would have tried that too.

This just happened to us on our record with the Ursa Broadcast G2. The interview lasted for 30 minutes, then when we ended the record it froze up and became unresponsive. After we had rebooted the camera, the recording on file was only 9 minutes long... So we had to do a reshoot.

Definitely going to use a video assist as secondary because of this issue. Nothing in the firmware notes about any fixes to it.
