9:16 With Ursa 2

PostFri Jul 26, 2024 6:47 am

Hello,
We have a three camera studio at FIT in NYC.
I want students to shoot for social media with our URSA 2 cameras
What is the best practice for framing 9:16 video?
Can the viewfinder display this guide grid?

Why not shoot sideways and rotate the footage in the Clip Attributes?

I turned my UMPG2 on its side. I have the SmallRig side plate, so I attached the Tripod Plate on to that to connect it to the tripod. There are also L Mount Brackets that you could use made for big cameras like the URSA or an Arri Alexa Mini.

We have done that for years when keying people standing in front of a greenscreen.
Not for 'social' media, but for resolution.

+1

Shot green screen since 2008 this way with early miniDV 1/3" 3CCD cameras, gaining extra vertical resolution helping green screen keying...

In saying that, this new format (thanks to iPhone & Android) become so powerful social media format and should not be overlooked, something that BMD should address in firmware, they already did in Resolve.

Edit: this again proof that it is about content and not the camera, everyday content creators with "0" cinematography experience gaining 100's of milions views Globally just by filming interesting and engaging content with what they had with phone in their hand point and shot...putting vast majority of experienced directors and cinematographers to shame ...
