BMPCC 6k pro - Sensor Dimensions

PostFri Aug 11, 2023 12:26 pm

Greetings. Looking for information on active sensor area when shooting at different resolutions.
Perhaps someone already has this information?

As an example of what I'm looking for, I'm attaching an image of the information I need, but with an ARRI Alexa Mini.

Thank you in advance :D

Try the free FOV calculator by Abelcine. IIRC it will show such information.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

In BRAW:

6144 x 3456 (6K) up to 50 fps ... 23.10mm x 12.99mm (full sensor area)
6144 x 2560 (6K 2.4:1) up to 60 fps ... 23.10mm x 9.63mm (height center crop)
5744 x 3024 (5.7K 17:9) up to 60 fps ... 21.60mm x 11.37mm (center crop)
4096 x 2160 (4K DCI) up to 60 fps ... 15.40mm x 8.12mm (center crop)
3840 x 2160 (Ultra HD) up to 60 fps ... 14.44mm x 8.12mm (center crop)
3728 x 3104 (3.7K 6:5 anamorphic) up to 60 fps ... 14.02mm x 11.67mm (center crop)
2880 x 1512 (2.8K 17:9) up to 120 fps ... 10.83mm x 5.69mm (center crop)
1920 x 1080 (HD) up to 120 fps ... 7.22mm x 4.06mm (center crop)
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Interesting to see the ARRI top out at UHD resolution (perfectly suitable for television) but no full 4K resolutions (4096 x whatever) such as 4K DCI. Thank you BMD for your range of resolutions on the modest BMPCC4K. Even the original URSA Mini 4K (4000 x 2160) exceeds that Alexa’s resolution and is ideal for the 1.85:1 cinematic resolution 3996x2160.

And with the new 2x Enhanced feature (in firmware 18.5), the BMPCC4K can give you a reasonable upscaled 8K DCI or 8K Widescreen if you prefer that on your home theatre assuming your TV supports it. I know my lowly old Samsung HDTV plays 2K just fine so it wouldn’t surprise me if the 8K can play 8192 x 4320 as well.

I know ARRI’s strength is in several other areas such as superior dynamic range and latitude so it’s still a better camera.
