Recording With 2 Mics on BMPC4K?

PostFri Feb 28, 2025 10:04 am

Hello Y'all,

I'm looking to optimize audio inputs on this camera for face-to-face interviews. Currently I'm using an AKG SE300B with CK93 capsule microphone connected via XLR mounted on top of my BMPC4K to interview people, but you hear my voice on the side/behind, not as clear. Can I connect a second mic pointed towards me, via the 3.5mm input at the same time to record my voice? So the interview would record two separate levels of audio from each respective microphone that I can edit in Premiere Pro/DaVinci?

If so, what mic would you recommend?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Regards,

Hi. I did a similar thing to record a singer. The microphone went into the xlr 48v and the music from the pc to the 3.5 input. I would send it back to the singer through the headphone output.
Then in Davinci resolve you will work the two independent tracks to adjust levels and whatnot.

Thanks Maurizio. Different scenario, but similar. I wonder if you'd get two separate audio tracks if that 3.5 input is into a mic instead of a PC. I guess the best way is to test it.

Another approach would be to use a separate field recorder for the mics (maybe even a 32-bit float device) and send the output of that to the camera.

Syncing by audio should be pretty smooth in Resolve.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Of course, yeah. The only caveat here is that the 3.5mm input can't supply 48V phantom power, so you'll either have to use a mic that doesn't require it or find an adapter that can supply 48V to the mic externally.

Thanks Alex. Right. I'll have to shop around and see if there are any decent mics that don't need 48V.
