Info about Sensor Calibration and Firmware Updates

PostSun Apr 06, 2025 7:29 pm

I've just installed the new 9.5 update on my 6K FF, to play around with a few new features, last update I did was for 8.6.

Once updated I noticed quite a few hot pixels popped up, around 5/6, that I for sure know weren't there just before updating. I do rember around an year ago, when I got the camera. it had like 2/3 hot pixels and I did calibrate the sensor and they disappeard ever since.

So this made me question a couple of things:

1. Do firmware updates "reset" previous sensor calibrations?
2. If I do multiple sensor calibrations over time does the camera always start fresh or does it take into consideration previous calibrations? I assume it "starts fresh" because I have had experiences with other cameras where hot pixels appear and disappear on their own, so if the previous calibration identified an hot pixel and "replaced it" with neighbours' average then if with a new calibration the camera detects that pixel is working fine again it'll revert back to using its real value.
