Regarding Timecode in the Blackmagic Camera App

PostFri May 02, 2025 9:08 am

I have a question regarding the "Blackmagic Camera" app, specifically for both the Android and iPhone versions.
There is an issue where footage shot with these apps does not have its timecode correctly recognised.

When imported into DaVinci Resolve, the timecode and frame rate follow the embedded metadata. However, in EDIUS, while the timecode appears to be correct, the frame rate is shown as 28.99fps instead of the expected 30fps.
In Premiere Pro, both the timecode and frame rate deviate from the embedded metadata.

Furthermore, when an XML exported from Premiere is imported back into DaVinci Resolve, the timecode within the XML becomes even more misaligned.

While I have confirmed that the frame rate discrepancy is indeed an issue, I would like to ask whether the timecode misalignment can be improved through settings either within the app or in DaVinci Resolve?

Reference:

    Clip metadata start TC: 12:54:39:00
    Premiere start TC: 12:54:41:05

In addition, although I no longer have the project file using the clip above (apologies for that), I did export different data formats using another edited clip:

    Correct cut timecode: 16:38:18:05
    XML timecode: 16:06:18:19
    AAF timecode: 16:32:24:10
    EDL timecode: 16:38:42:20
