Replacement EVF/ Pyxis monitor USB-C cable

PostWed Nov 27, 2024 6:35 pm

Hello!
Wondering two things.
Will the Pyxis monitor in its basic package ship with a USB-C cable?
Can you buy the cable separately if you need or want a second one or replacement one?
Thankyou!

Replacement EVF/ Pyxis monitor USB-C cable

PostWed Nov 27, 2024 8:33 pm

The Pyxis Monitor does not include a USB-C cable. It includes the Clip On Sunshade.

The Pyxis Monitor Kit includes the custom USB-C locking cable and sunshade and a fancy BMD mount.

There is some uncertainty about the cable connector. The Spec webpage does not show the 90 degree angle connector that the Pyxis camera descriptive webpages show as I recall.

Edit
If you want the short angled USB-C cable that BMD has shown, it’s described as a custom cable and it’s not currently offered as an item to buy separately. I’m sure if it was available from BMD, it would sell well.

I would buy at least 2 for redundancy. What say you Blackmagic? Will you take our money and provide us with the sweet sweet cables we desire?

I really hope they sell these separate, and I'd love to see them sell a few different lengths as well. They talked about how the PYXIS and URSA Cine can do up to 5 meter long cables. I'd love to see them sell a 5M long locking cable as it would be super nice for Crane/Jib Setups.

If they don't I'd be surprised if some 3rd party doesn't step in and make some.

XLCS Designs has replacement cables in 30, 50, and 80cm length with black or red braided cables. There is also a 350cm length cable for using the monitor at a remote distance.

Curious what cable length people are using with their monitor? Considering the 30cm for top handle mounting although that might actually be a bit long, considering the USB-c is in the middle of the monitor, not the top.

I have the XLCS 50 for normal use and have the longest length they sell for when I'm on a shoulder rig since the monitor will be attached much further away on my setup. With the 50, it's still a little long so I use some "clips" to keep the cable out of the way.

Thanks for the reply Corey! Looks like you have your monitor in a similar place where I am hoping to place mine so I was wondering if you could measure if even 15cm would be enough? The 50cm you have seems way too long (although probably useful for different setups as well).

15cm is too short, but perfect for an SSD to the back USB-C if you have a mount plate on the side. 30 would be a minimum length for a monitor that is on top of the Pyxis, might even be short if you have an EVF mount, which puts the monitor offset from the camera.

Unfortunately they don't do right-angle cables for the Pyxis monitor, unless I missed it?

Ok will go with 30cm then. Just a pity their shipping is effectively doubling the price of the cable..

EDIT: Turns out Alvin's has started to sell right angle cables as well, the listing is just not up on their website yet.
