Android App Whitebalance Bugs

PostSat May 03, 2025 6:55 pm

I'm testing Blackmagic camera app on a Samsung S24 Ultra, S25 Ultra and a Xiaomi 14 Ultra. All three are having an issue dialing in white balance on the low end. For example, house interior with 2700K lighting, the lowest I can go on the app is 2500K, and it is still way too warm.

I can only achieve a neutral white balance by selecting auto white balance. This then shows 2500K and +50 Tint. If I deselect auto white balance, keeping those values, and try to warm it up 100K to 2600K, it suddenly jumps and is incredibly warm, as if I selected 5600K.

On Both the Samsungs, I also get two issues, one, if I start the app in manual color temp mode, the image is desaturated and sepia toned. If I hit auto white balance, it jumps to normal saturation, and then

I can adjust white balance normally, but again with the first issue, if I try to do that approach on the low kelvin end, I simply can not do that, it will never look normal in the 2700-3200 range without using auto white balance.

Best,

Nathan

It appears the latest Blackmagic Camera and/or Android update has fixed the white balance range issue. I can now get a neutral white balance manually down in the 2500-3200K range. I do still have to tap AWB to get normal gamut/saturation levels. But after hitting AWB I can then uncheck and manually dial it in.

Best,

Nathan
