URSA Cine 12K Availability Concerns

PostTue May 13, 2025 3:24 pm

This is my first post here (longtime lurker), so apologies if this is the wrong board.

I ordered an URSA Cine 12K from Full Compass Systems (an authorized dealer) about five weeks ago, before tariff pricing took effect. They originally estimated 5–9 days. On April 14, I followed up, and they said Blackmagic anticipated availability in 3–5 weeks. After a month with no update, I emailed again yesterday and was told Blackmagic is “not presently offering us anything in the way of a new tentative availability date.”

Meanwhile, I’ve seen the camera go in and out of stock at B&H multiple times over the past month—it's currently available for in-store pickup.

I understand that manufacturing timelines have been uncertain recently, but it’s very frustrating to wait over a month while another retailer gets restocks, and I’m told there's no timeline for my purchase at all.

I contacted Blackmagic USA, but they only referred me to their distributor, 1Sourcevideo, who said the following, “We have not received many of the body only versions of the Cine 12k but have been getting full BMD-CINEURSAA12KLF models at a steady pace. I am uncertain the reason for this.”

It appears Blackmagic is selectively fulfilling orders—prioritizing the full package and certain retailers like B&H—while leaving others, like Full Compass, in the dark.

I'm posting here because I’ve hit a wall contacting Blackmagic directly. Other customers may be in the same boat.

Can anyone share accurate information on this camera’s availability? This isn’t a pre-order—there should be more clarity on when orders will be fulfilled.

Your comments seem to indicate you ordered URSA Cine 12K Body. Correct?

1Sourcevideo, who said the following, “We have not received many of the body only versions of the Cine 12k but have been getting full BMD-CINEURSAA12KLF models at a steady pace. I am uncertain the reason for this.”

It seems the Body only option was a reaction to many comments that a significantly large part of the cost of the URSA Cine 12K LF so BMD listened and decided to offer the body without all those accessories. Kudos, eh? But any change like that can be disruptive to the assembly lines.

It appears Blackmagic is selectively fulfilling orders—prioritizing the full package and certain retailers like B&H…

Some vendors such as BMD order high volumes of an item they consider will be popular; perhaps a thousand copies. Historically a small vendor can often deliver a BMD product sooner to its few customers than a large vendor; perhaps delivering only 2-5 copies. BMD has tried to distribute orders amount suppliers in the beginning so it’s much easier for small vendors to fill their immediate orders but B&H Photo may takes many weeks to receive their initial orders. Perhaps the historical pattern is changing so your feedback is important.

There’s a couple of differences this time compared to all previous years: wildly fluctuating tariffs and changing country of origin to minimize your tariff charges. These have probably have slowed delivery while trying to do something that’s never been done before for BMD.

I hope you receive your camera soon. I’m sure it will be coming soon. I had to wait almost a full year for my first camera in 2016 so we all share your perspective.
