Proper Workflow for BMD Micro Converter HDMI to SDI 12G

PostThu May 15, 2025 1:07 am

I am looking for help in setting up a two camera shoot as follows

Two Sony A7S IIIs, each with a Atomos Ninja V
Atomos Sumo 19SE
Two BMD Micro Converter HDMI to SDI 12G

I'm running HDMI out of my camera to the NINJA V then HDMI out to the Micro Converter. From there, I am running a BNC cable from the Micro Converter to the Atomos Sumo 19SE. I am duplicating this set up with the second camera as well. Obviously, inputting into a separate BNC channel on the Sumo.

1. Would this configuration work?
2. Is the BMD Micro Converter the right tool?
3. How long of a run can the BNC cable from the micro converter to the Sumo be? Is 25' or 50' too long?
$. Lastly, Is there a specific HDMI and/or BNC cable I should use?

Any direction or wisdom would be very much appreciated.

1. it should. hdmi in to the micro converter, and sdi out to 2 screens/recorders

2. yes. providing that you want both screens to have the same signal. the micro converters have 2 sdi output of the same signal.

3. you can run sdi for hundreds of feet.

$(make sure the cable is the correct bandwidth) sdi and bnc aren't always the same. try hooking up an old composite cable in a 12g line... make sure the specs match the camera. 3g is good for 1080p 60. anything higher you'll want 12g.
