Upgrading to anything newer than 8.6 brings back to 8.1

PostThu May 15, 2025 11:24 pm

I tried almost any new firmware but anything newer than 8.6beta brings my BMPCC 6K back to 8.1 and, from what i read on this forum, i'm not the only one that experienced this issue.
Did anyone find a fix to this problem?
Should the new 9.x firmware works on any BMPCC 6K or just from a certain serial number onwards?
Any help would be warmly appreciate.
Best, Marco

Hi,

This is expected. The GM firmware should only flash your camera with GM releases. Since 8.7 is a beta, we did not think it's appropriate for it to be included in the GM release. So if you want to run the 8.7 beta release, then just download and run the 8.7 updated on our website.

Newer firmware versions only carry stable releases.

Is there a place where is listed the latest firmware version and latest beta version for each model camera??? If not, could someone publish one? Thanks.

Hey Kristan,

Is the firmware for the Pocket line still in active development? Thanks!

Pockets 8.1 official 8.7 beta
Cc6k 9.5.1 with beta feature if autofocus

But anyway, every firmware had all in one about GM version, exclude beta. When you connect camera it setup for latest official release.

You should choose beta if you want to try, they choose to avoid mistake with this action.

For beta you can easily check in the support page, select cameras from top and go down and check.

Every firmware had a description about what camera update, if your (like mine) camera is not listed, this firmware is not for you.

I probably expressed myself badly (due to my poor english), let me rephrase.
I would like to have the new autofocus feature in my BMPCC 6K so i tried to install the 9.5.3 update. After the installation, the firmware shown on the display was not the expected 9.5.3 but the very old 8.1.
Which steps do you suggest to achieve the correct installation of the 9.5.3 release? Which version should i have to install before to try to install the 9.5.3?
Best, Marco.

You can't Marco, the feature of autofocus is BMCC 6k only, be cause sensor is phase based, different from bmpcc 6k and many other Blackmagic Design cameras.

You phrased it correctly the first time.

Also the auto focus update is for the Cinema Camera 6K not the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K.
