Immersive Camera question

PostMon May 12, 2025 5:30 pm

Hi guys,

so I finally caught up with the latest Apple Immersive content pieces and am just wowed once again by the quality of the content.

I'm seriously eyeing the Cine Immersive camera for my company and have one technical question -
I noticed in almost every video that sometimes there are shots that look like shot with a longer sort of lens- Real closeups of people's heads mostly, or an even longer lens in the "Men vs Beast" video. There were some crazy long shots of the bulls behind bars, looking almost like 85/100mm lenses, not fisheye at all. Also the FoV was smaller in those shots, with more black covering the edges of the shot.

It doesnt seem like they simply cropped in, especially since the image quality didn't take a hit. I couldnt find any mention of this in any of the videos from NAB on youtube.. so does anyone know more about this? ;)

I was curious about that as well. Anthony Maës wrote an article after attending NAB 2025 stating that a separate prism-based rig from Stereotec was used to do those up-close shots. It looks like a beast! https://medium.com/@portemantho/immersi ... b47a5fdb02

It combines two 12K Blackmagic cameras equipped with macro photolenses, mounted at a 90 degree angle, pointed at a prism, which allows them to be optically side by side.

Uhh thanks a lot! I was suspecting something like that..

Thanks, Matt, for the link. When I wake up in the middle of the night, reading the yet-to-be-released “Immersive Everywhere and All at Once” manual is going to help me get back to sleep. Fascinating, but I just don’t speak the language… yet!
