6K G2 is 8.1 Firmware and cannot update to 9.5?

PostSun Apr 27, 2025 3:34 pm

My BMPCC 6K G2 is running on the 8.1 software.
But I cannot update it to the latest release 9.5.
I cannot wait to test the new focus assist stuff.

Can any one help?
Best.

9.5 has all the firmwares for all the cameras, that doesn't mean 9.5 is for your camera. 8.1 is the newest for that camera.

Actually 8.6 beta is latest firmware for the 6K G2. But you need to install that specific version of the camera utility to get it. (9.5 will tell you there is a new version, and DOWNGRADE to 8.1, duh )
BMs versioning of the camera utility / firmware / camera model is all over the place and makes no sense whatsoever. imo.

It's BETA. A stable release won't have a beta version included.

It will never cease to amaze me how much discussion in the BMD camera world is a product of just not really understanding how firmware updates work. Of all the stickies that could exist on this forum, there should really be something along the lines of a "This is the latest firmware revision of each camera:" thread.

The latest firmware is in every new version of Blackmagic Camera Setup for every camera. This does not include Beta versions.
