Camera 9.4 Beta

PostThu Apr 17, 2025 9:12 pm

Hey everyone. I was super excited to see that the Blackmagic Camera 9.4 Beta has been released which finally implemented 2110 support for the Blackmagic Studio Converters and my Blackmagic Studio 4K Pro cameras that I've been using.

However, I know virtually nothing about 2110 and I've run in to some issues that have me feeling out of my depth.

Firstly, I'm so glad that DHCP is working for both the Studio Converters and Cameras since I've got my Camera connected via ethernet to the Converter's "Camera" ethernet port and then the Converter connected to my network switch via the Converter's "Control" ethernet port. This wasn't working for me prior to this update so that's very encouraging and I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the ability to file transfer direct from the camera via FTP, HTTPS, etc. It's also super convenient to be able to see my cameras in the Blackmagic Camera Setup app over the network without a usb connection for updates and configuration. I'm not currently seeing the converters in the same manner; I have to connect usb in order to see them in the app. Maybe that'll change in the future (yes, I have "Allow Utility Administration via USB and Ethernet" enabled, and yes, all ip addresses are in the same subnet).

My main concern is that I'm not seeing video on my Studio Converters or anywhere downstream. My cameras are updated to 9.4, and my converters are updated to 2.1 (Blackmagic Camera setup is v9.4 and when I update the converters with that software it says they're updated to 2.1). When I power up, I see video on my converters and downstream, but that quickly goes away. I have my cameras set to "PTP Follower Only" in the setup menu, and when the video was showing up briefly, I saw that the "2110 Receiver" showed the correct Studio Converter and the "PTP Clock Settings" showed the corresponding Studio Converter's MAC address as well as PTP Lock "Yes". The inverse is true for the converter setup menu ("PTP Follower Only" is disabled, "2110 Receiver" showed "Camera", and "PTP Clock Settings" showed the Studio Converter's MAC address and PTP Lock "Yes"). That all goes away along with the video feed after a brief moment and I don't know why.

In their current state, the Studio Converters show 10G connection, the correct resolution and frame rate from my cameras, PoE enabled, and STANDBY, not Tally.

I'll revert back to a previous update for the time being but I'm really looking forward to having all this functionality working! Any help or advice would be appreciated

Provided they have both been updated with the new 9.4 utility and you set your reference source in the camera set up menu to ‘External’ it should all just work. You have Ethernet plugged into the ‘camera’ port on the back of the studio converter correct?

I would try resetting factory defaults on the camera and the Studio Converter and set your reference to external.

Then as long as the camera format for frame rate and SDI matches the switcher and you have a return feed run into Return 1 on the Studio Converter it should all just come up and work normally.

You shouldn’t need to configure 2110 PTP settings or any of the more complicated NMOS settings in the utility unless you are running through a switch. When running point to point with our studio converter there is almost no configuration required as long as you set your reference source to ‘external’.

Hey Tim!

I have updated both my Camera and Studio Converter to 9.4 and done a factory reset on both devices.
My Camera reference source is set to External 2110.
I have my Camera and Studio Converter connected directly to each other via Ethernet using the "Camera" port on the back of the Studio Converter.
My Camera resolution and frame rate matches the standard of my Switcher.
I have my Switcher program connected to "Return 1" of the Studio Converter.

Under these conditions, my system works normally! However, when I connect my Studio Converter to my network switch via Ethernet using the "Control" port, I lose signal on my Studio Converter and everywhere downstream.
To be clear, my Camera and Studio Converter are connected directly to each other, point-to-point via Ethernet using the "Camera" port on the Converter. My Converter is then also connected to my network switch via Ethernet using the "Control" port and that is when I have my issue.

I would like to be able to have my devices connected to the network so I can take advantage of Blackmagic Camera Setup purely over the network without a USB connection and also so that I can use the file transfer feature on the Camera as well.

Hello!

I've updated two G2 Studio Pro's with the beta firmware and connected directly to a 4x12G 2110 Converter, however i'm 'missing' some features.

Tally and call is not working, but that’s okay for now.

Similar to Jonathan his problem i'm unable to find/control the Studio Pro's connected (poe++ directly) to the 2110. The 2110 is connected using its 1G network port.
Anything i’d should setup? (currently all devices are on DHCP, i’d prefer my server can give the Studio Pro’s a IP?).
