I am experiencing a critical issue with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (original model). The camera stops recording after approximately 1.5 to 21 seconds, regardless of resolution, codec, or power source.
Here are the key details:
- Camera model: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K
- Firmware: Latest available (installed using Blackmagic Camera Utility)
- Recording format: Blackmagic RAW Q5, 6K (6144x3456), 30fps
- Frame rate settings: Project frame rate 30fps, sensor frame rate 50fps (on-speed)
- Recording media: Samsung Portable T5 SSD 2TB (previously working for years)
- Power: Tested both with LP-E6NH battery and via AC adapter
- Symptoms: Recording always stops after 1.5–21 seconds, even with external power and fully reset settings
- Attempts to fix:
- Factory reset of the camera
- Switched to ProRes, HD resolution, and internal media
- Reformatted SSD in camera and on computer
- Tried different frame rate combinations
- Replaced USB-C cable
- Reinstalled camera firmware/software using latest Camera Utility
- The issue persists regardless of these steps
This behavior began intermittently around 6 months ago and has now become constant. Previously, with the same SSD, battery, and settings, the camera recorded flawlessly for years.
Could you please advise on how to proceed? Is this a known hardware failure, and would you recommend a service inspection?
Thank you for your help.
Update: After long checks and options I found out that the problem is in the USB C socket of the camera, most likely, some of the contacts are coming off, when pressing the cable with a finger, the video recording goes fine, I will try to look for where I can replace this connector.
