URSA Cine 12K LF - How to control the camera?

PostMon Jun 23, 2025 6:55 pm

Hi!

I'm using the Tilta Nucleus-M follow focus handles. I wonder if I could use the REC button on the handle to control the camera. The 7-pin to 7-pin cable that comes with the kit does not fit in the EXT (7-pin) on the camera. Tilta does sell cables but I don't know which one to choose.

Either the ARRI EXT 7-pin OR the 3-pin Fisher (RS port).

Which one should I pick?

Thanks!

I've already tested the Tilta Arri EXT 7-Pin and it doesn't work for powering the motors. However, the 3-Pin Fischer does work to power the motors. That's what I'm using.

My only complaint of their cable is that it is only one size and the cable is quite long. Since the UCine 3-Pin Port is so close to the motors you don't need all that length and so you have to coil that extra slack and tie it off with a bongo tie. I've put in a request with Tilta for them to make a shorter cable.

I've also put in a request for Tilta to work on the 7-Pin cable to make one that works with the UCine. Fingers crossed they come out with a few new options soon.

Oh wow thank you for your answer. I will get it right away. And good idea about your request, I'll do the same, maybe it will help!

There are a lot of ways to control URSA Cine.

URSA Cine's RS connector is standard wiring so it should work for run stop off many different accessories and record run button / cables. We have tested the record Run Stop whilst also powering lens motor systems from Preston, ARRI, cMotion, Tilta and RT Motion / Teradek via the 3-pin RS. It works.

The EXT connector also has the same 3 pins on it as the RS connector so if you use a standard ARRI 7-pin EXT to RS cable you con convert that port to get a second RS from the EXT port. Handy if you want to run a follow focus system with RS and then also have URSA Cine Grips connected for handheld use with Run Stop.

The RS and EXT ports on URSA Cine provide 24 volts at up to 2 amps (shared between those two ports) and they will output power provided you are running off 24v power at the back... so will certainly work with powering one motor on any of the above systems... some will work with 2.. once you get up to 3 motors you may need additional power from d-tap on a battery etc. You will need to check the specifications from the manufacturer.

At Cine Gear 2025 as mentioned in another thread:
• ARRI showed their new NIA-1 which can control URSA Cine over ethernet from the Hi-5.
• cMotion showed their cForce Mini RF motors working to drive full URSA Cine camera control over the URSA's 7-pin EXT from their cPro follow focus handgrip.

From what I understand those two require a paid license upgrade. I'm sure Tilta won't be far behind with adding camera control over the 7-pin EXT from their motors as well.

The camera is highly controllable as on top of all of these options we have our Camera Control REST API for control over ethernet or WiFi, the serial control, the RS connector and you can also control it and receive a stream from it via the Blackmagic Camera App.

Is there a guide on how to connect to the UC 12K with the Black Magic Camera app on Android? I paired my phone (Google Pixel 6 pro) to my camera via Bluetooth, but I don't see a way to connect to the camera from there.
