This is the one I have been testing with. I am also developing a more compact option for mounting to cages etc.

Is it greedy if I want ethernet too?
A little, lol. Correct me if I am wrong, I feel most people use Ethernet for gaining access to the camera settings remotely. If you have the monitor attached, why do you need that access any more? Even with the camera mounted—you can lock a very long cable to it for control. If not.. why even use the monitor and just use Ethernet?

You can transfer footage easier over ethernet.

Will, what length cable are you using? With that length, can you safely turn the monitor the opposite direction?

The XLCS cable. 15cm. Yes, you can turn the monitor 180* connected.

From scratch. The board is built it just needs to be produced along with the housing.

It has 1 input (you can use any cable going in, there isn’t a fixed cable) and 3 outputs (1x monitor 2x data). All the input/output ports will have threaded holes to support locking cables.

The hosing itself will be able to mount directly to cages. It’s maybe 1-2 months out. I wanted to be sure this update actually allowed for the video/data split before going into production.

No guarantee that it will work and for the size and price of it, it's not worth it.

Im waiting on my monitor to be delivered today, I will give you an update on the one I am using.

Rodney de Graaff wrote:We've recently paired the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera G2 with a PYXIS Monitor. The camera is running the latest Blackmagic Camera 9.6 firmware.

When connecting the monitor via USB-C, we’ve tried both a standard USB-C cable and the specific cable that comes with the Blackmagic remote control (the one with the screw-locking wheel for securing the connection) , the PYXIS screen remains black. The backlight turns on, but no image appears.

We're wondering:

- Has anyone else experienced this issue?
- Is the included cable possibly not suitable for video output?
- Is a specific type of USB-C cable required for this setup?

Any insights or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Did you get yours working?

.. just wondering.. if you develop that hub by yourself, would it also be possible for you to develop some kind of usb-c/video "Repeater" which makes it possible to extend the USB-C cable length?

MICRO STUDIO G2 ->

I am just thinking, because I use the cameras on a "remote" positions which are out of reach.
The Pyxis Monitor would be great for basic settings and start/stop recording - the HUB alongside with the monitor to connect SSD and Zoom/Focus Demands.

Did you bother to read his notes about 3d printing a cage and that he found a solution that is confirmed by this forum?

XLCS has had a cage for this camera for over months / years now.

The Focus demands control has a second USB built on it already. So you won't need a second USB for it on the hub.

hey,

fyi - i tried a bunch of hubs (also the ones already mentioned here in the forum), only one worked:
seloretech.com
Model: SEUC4308
Selore USB C Video Hub Typ C Hub 10Gbps 5 in 1

a dream came true, using the g2 for live concerts. camera controls via monitor USB-C, wireless signal with LUT over SDI and recording for postproduction over the USB-C. LOVE IT!

the hub is exactly the width of the monitor, so i attached it with a velcro - works like a charm! but it would be nice to have a smaller solution. it is working so i think there will be a 2 in 1 hub/adapter for it in the near future - looking forward to it.

greets from austria,
joe

The dp-alt passthrough in this product may have issues connecting to monitors with inbuilt 'hubs'. By this I mean monitors which accept a usb-c signal for video as well as integrated usb devices, such as audio or touchscreen.

I had a similar problem with the same product connected to such a usb-c monitor, in my case a wearable display with audio out.

Important Note: This device does not support bidirectional charging. It does not charge USB C output devices like monitor.

It's on sale on Amazon too.

Can you confirm whether the monitor still works with this hub while running at 100% brightness? I have this particular hub, although anything above 75% brightness in the monitor settings causes wild flickering. Could be due to different usb c cables (my purchase did not include the cable), but I just want to make sure.

This is the one I have been testing with. I am also developing a more compact option for mounting to cages etc.

Check out the MSC manual with the 9.6 release. Apparently the Blackmagic Camera app on iOS or android can control the MSC when both are connected to the same network. E.g., the MSC is connected to Ethernet & the phone is on WiFi.

Is there a dongle that can add wifi capability that can plug into the hub?

AR/VR Hubs doesn't work as they are not bidirectional.

Devices which can achieve are called wifi bridges and connect via ethernet. You can see various solutions by searching "bmmsc 4k g2 wifi bridge". Sort of mind boggling what solutions are being used just to perform simple remote control of this camera.

In principle a phone with usb tethering and wifi hotspot enabled could work with the right configuration, but as I read would require a proxy/routing app and maybe a rooted phone. Alternatively a Raspberry Pi could be configured to do the same thing.

If you don't need external usb power this hub might work. This site's marketing material is off but the usb-c port is reported to support dp-alt passthrough. Only one though so you'll lose external usb power.

This one works with Pyxis Monitor, SSD, and ethernet. I tried it with a UGreen 2.5gbps Ethernet with a USB-C to USB-A card. I just tried it.
