Shooting 3D with BMCC

PostSat Jan 12, 2013 2:45 am

Hi BMCC people, Has anyone seen or know if it is possible to rig the BMCC for 3D? I have been thinking with it's 2.5K sensor, why not give it a try?

There's no way to lock two BMCs together.

I bet if someone comes up with an adaptor that goes around the EF mount of even if there's a bolt side-by-side 3D rig, that could work, I think.

why can't you set them up using a mirror box like so
http://steadi3d.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/IMG_1449-700x466.jpg
this is the setup we had on the Cirque Du Soleil movie "World's Away" but using alexa's.
Overcoming the genlock issue.... you could potentially just get crafty with 2 LANC remotes and splice two remotes into one with two input cables running to each BMCC. Thats just a guess but it could potentially work for the synced start/stop issue.
And if it doesn't, your not out that much $$$

It's not just about starting them at the same time.

The cameras have to be PHASE locked...This is what gen lock does....

The shutters have to be in sync so they both take a photograph at the same time.

Thanks John, I also heard of a method using pocket wizards to trigger the shutters into sync on DSLR's....unfortunately PW's won't help us with the BMCC...hmmm, any other workarounds?
