HyperDeck Shuttle

PostThu Mar 07, 2013 7:19 am

Hi all,, just wondering how well the HyperDeck Shuttle works with the Canon 6D ? We have one at our college and I want to get the quality of our work files up to a high standard so we can shoot green screen without too much compression re Quicktime....

Cheers

Not very well... and not because of the Hyperdeck. The problem is that the HDMI out of the 6D is not "clean" - the HDMI output has everything you see on the screen. To see this, just hook it up to an HDMI monitor. Everything you see on the monitor gets recorded by the Hyperdeck.

If you want to use just part of the image, say from a green screen, then I guess that is possible. In that case, the problem is that the HDMI out is interlaced, so you'll need to deinterlace the footage in post. Canon will be updating the firmware for the 5D Mark III next month to allow clean HDMI. No word that the 6D will get the same treatment.
