Just designed a BMC StudioRig.

PostSat Mar 23, 2013 12:26 am

Just designed a BMC StudioRig.

I brings all the connections to the dumb side, 2 XLR audio, 1 x XLR power, 2 x SDI out, TB, LANC.
The Headphone is on the back.

Integrated preamp and phantom power, audiometers.

A ton of mounting points, solid Nato Rails for hand grips, monitors, EVF, handle - you name it.
Build in 15 and 19 mm rod clamp at the bottom.

Still thinking about tripod connection and shouldermount options. Ether snap plate or dove tail (leaning toward dove tail).

Let me know what you guys think.

For now, it's just concept art.

Since I'm too busy shooting stuff, I have no time, to tackle the production of something like that anyway. So I gonna search for a partner that can do it.

Why move the connections to the right side? To get out of the way of a focus puller?

love the design concept. Few notes.

the top handle would cause the camera to dutch tilt. I'd center it up, possibly flip it too(preferences).
Do you have the tools necessary to do the audio meters and compact connections on the SSD side?
what kind of material?

with the design, the cage would be pretty easy to CNC. and as long as you give it the appropriate locator pin, and screw holes on the base it should mount to any quick release plate. Also make sure you leave room for the vents on the bottom.

Also I've tried asking BMD for a 3D model and/or schematics for vents and mounts. they said no.

now i guess i have to top this in my design... good ol fashioned American vs German engineering.

To get acurate side to side balance, the handle needs to be able to slide left or right, toward the direction of the heaviest side.

Frank while you are at it design an accordion folding sun hood, min 1 1/2" folded, max 7" extended
and make snaps on it to snap it on the cage.

Look very promissing!!

I could be able to help you on the electronics part of this rig.

Besides that i have a video production company, i do a lot of electronic development in our other company.

We are right now developing a cage for the Hyperdeck Shuttle to re-arrange the connectors to make them less vunerable to snapping of HDMI connectors or the mini sdi cables. Which is very good possible at this moment.

If your intrested send me a PM. I'm based in the Netherlands (10 minutes from the german border) so we could meet up some time to talk things thru if needed.

I'm interested! I've already pulled out the SDI socket accidentally. :(
Was easily fixable but taught me something worse could very likely happen!

Frank, that looks great.

Probably you could manufacture without the audiopart more easily and just make slideinplates for the 2 or 3 most common audio hardware.

May have jinxed myself. SDI-in on my Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 stopped working today during a shoot. Can't get it back to life. :( :( :(

It's only 1-2 months old (got it same time as my bmcc). The downtime is the issue. :(

Oooh! Nice audio meters!

A couple of points:
1. Make sure you have enough clearance to easily flip open the SSD door and extract an ssd.
2. Allow holes on the bottom for the fan exhaust.

Haha I'm older then that, I do agree, it must be able to carry a few litres or more!

This rig would be a winner!
