1.3 Firmaware Mic Input TEST REPORT

PostSat Apr 27, 2013 8:02 pm

Hi guys,
I've tested again the mic input of my BMCC, now with firmware 1.3. The test was conducted without using preamps, just plugging mic's into the camera.

1. Rode Video Mic (not the pro version, so no + 25 db switch) -
- with firmware 1.2 and 100% percent gain -slight signal was present, not usable!
- with firmware 1.3 - no signal is present.
2. Lav Mic type 1
- with firmware 1.2- usable SNR - about 30 % percent camera gain
- with firmware 1.3 - at 100% the signal is usable. I'm not sure, I have to double check, but I think that there is less noise.
3. Lav Mic type 2
- with firmware 1.2- usable SNR - about 27 % percent camera gain
- with firmware 1.3 - at 95% the signal is usable. I'm not sure, I have to double check, but I think that there is less noise.
4. Lav Mic type 3
- with firmware 1.2 and 100% percent gain -slight signal was present, not usable!
- with firmware 1.3 - almost no signal is present.

Cheers,
Milen

You're going to have to be a bit more specific. Are the lav's wireless or wired?

If Wireless Lav's you should just set the camera to Line Level 100% then adjust your receivers gain to suit.

If Wired, use Mic Level and adjust your camera's levels to suit.

In regards to the Rode Video Mic - try using a different cable/adapter.

Hi Chris,
by bet. Yes all the lavs are wired. About the Video Mic, you might wanna check my previous thread here:http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6747&start=10
It is not about connection, the signal is very very low, I can say not present. Bare in mind that I've used this lavs and Video Mic on regular bases with other cameras and there were no problems at all.

Thx for the input!

Cheers,

Milen
