Tiffen 1.2 ND Color Issue - Sample Video

PostSat Jul 13, 2013 9:06 am

So I bought the Tiffen 1.2 ND ... just the basic $45 model. Check out what it does to the footage. It claims to not change the color....what the heck is going on?

The setting were the same just changed aperture when adding ND
800 ASA
180 shutter angle

Lots of black clothes turn red...this is one example

looks like you should return it immediately. I saw these color changes to red before, from very cheap China filters. Not usable.

That's normal IR contamination. Nothing wrong with your filter, they all do that, no mater what brand.
You need a IR filter on top of it.

The higher the ND the more red you will see in the blacks. This, as Franks said, is normal IR contamination. It's less visible with 0.3 & 0.6 ND and become much more visible with 0.9 and above.

Can be fixed with a IR cut filter (cheaper option) or swapping the standard ND for an IRND filter.
