Old Nikon manual Vs Leica R primes for BMCC EF

PostMon Jul 22, 2013 6:10 am

Would Old Nikon manual or Leica R glasses with suitable adapters be good choice for BMCC EF. I have read people using them all over places but couldn't find any video except John Brawley's Puberty blues. There too I couldn't find whether the mount was EF or MFT.

Would the above two glasses be able to hold well for big screen. Are there any other Old/inexpensive glasses which can dream for big screen??
Can someone refer some links for footage using such glasses??

Regards

Both are very good. The only issue is there are not many options on the wide end.

I've use my Nikon AI/AIS as well as my Carl Zeiss ZF.2 on the BMCC EF.

Old Nikon AI/AIS are easy to find in 20mm and up. Any wider are very rare and very expensive.

A 24mm gets you close to the field of view of a 35mm on Super35 (C300, Alexa, FS700) and close to the FOV of a 50mm on a FullFrame DSLR (5D / D800)

I believe John B. used adapters on an EF.

I use Leica on an EF too. Works beautifully.

As stated, wide end is more difficult.

Mr Roberts you are gradually turning biggest helping hand over hand.... Glad to have you and so many other fine gents over here :)
What adapters you believe would be good, I saw one by Fotodiox with 5-10 bucks tag and good reviews
And which Nikon sizes you have in your arsenal

Mr. John what adapter you have been using?

Any link of footage would be highly helpful

Glad to be of help. Only fair to give back the the community that has given me so much.

I currently have a few cheap Chinese eBay adaptors. These are hit and miss. Of the 4 I have (all from the same source and identical in looks) and 3 of them have play in them that makes the lens shift when focusing. You get what you pay for...

I also have a Novoflex Nikon G to EF adaptor that is solid and really well made. Expensive... But you get what you pay for. The RedRock micro adaptors look good and have locking screws to prevent play. Don't over tighten the locking screws tho as they can damage the mount.

As for what I have in my current line up of Nikon mount lenses:
28mm f/2.8 AIS
35mm f/.14 AIS
55mm f/1.2 AI
105mm f/2 DC AF-D
135mm f/2.8 AIS

Looking for a 24mm.

Carl Zeiss ZF.2 (all cine mod'ed):
25mm f/2.8
35mm f/2
50mm f/1.4

85mm f/1.4 will be added soon.

All produce beautiful images on the BMCC. Nikon are slightly warmer than the Zeiss.

... there is a very simple and effective solution to the "play",
three small bits of duck tape on your lens mount.

Noble human always believe in maintaining such equilibrium, else you could have opted otherwise too 8-)

This is surely a one hell of an 'Arsenal'. I saw some videos on vimeo where Nikons were used, they were real pretty. But I am getting a feel that, Leica R or more filmic, that might be myth, but John Brawley's Puberty Blues has real stunning images.
