BMPCC Shipping Thread

PostThu Jul 25, 2013 3:04 pm

Looking forward to this shipping soon. Please post any new information about shipping here. I am sure at the LA meet up today there will be plenty of people to ask that would know.

Like everyone, excited to get my hands on this little video monster.

Talked to the distributor I ordered the camera through, and I was told they were shipping today, the 25th - whether that means that is an estimated arrival time, shipping from here in the US or shipping from Australia, who knows? It would be nice to think I can pick it up tomorrow though :D

Place called MicroSearch out of Houston, TX. They said BlackMagic was supposed to be shipping the cameras July 25th, but had not heard if they were on schedule or not. Based on that, I'd say it's all still speculation still when they will arrive. I do know the moment I find out when mine is available, I will be posting it here.

I attended the Los Angeles Blackmagic Day today.

The reps were saying it would be 3-4 weeks before they could even get into production.

This adds up to be an early September ship date. I'm assuming the "Shipping in July" on the webpage needs updating.

Hate to be too critical but it sounds like BMD should have used this NAB to shore up the existing BMCC and then completed design, test, and production ramp of 4k and PC for a late-2013 launch.

But why make big trumpet announcements with no intention of 'putting money where the mouth is' is my question. Best for them to have kept stumn until all is ready, not hard.

Official statement from Blackmagic on new camera shipping:

Simon Westland of Blackmagic Design EMEA

"Blackmagic Design is making significant progress in production of the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Production Camera 4K. Full production manufacturing is underway on the Pocket Cinema Camera with first production units in final testing. This is inline with our initial expectations of the end of July and means the camera will start to ship in quantity during August. There are several weeks of work to do on Production Camera 4K before this will enter full production manufacturing, however we expect to ship the first quantities of this model before the end of August."

You may confuse the BMPCC and BMPC.

The impact of turning up to NAB with cameras which are stocked, available and can be purchased immediately would be HUGE!

The other side of the coin is how do you keep this quiet? The number of leaks people like Apple get these days, but sure it would have stayed quiet...

I don't see how there can be severeal weeks of work yet on the 4k and still have an expectation of an August ship date. Heck, we are in August, practically. BMD is apparently in a position where they can announce products 4 to 6 months prior to shipment without doing too much damage to itself.

And yet that other kickstarter camera, the DB, was announced months before the BMCC EF, which is now more or less in stock everywhere.

Still waiting for DB motion footage though (the DNG frames do look promising though)
