What stuff should I get with my BMCC?

PostWed Aug 14, 2013 9:16 pm

Hi,

I'm looking into buying a blackmagic cinema camera but also think about some extra equipment.

First of all, I don't know what lens to get. I'm an absolute beginner, meaning I have no video equipment yet (except my iPhone, haha). I'm looking into getting the EF version. Can you recommend a zoom lens that's relatively light-sensitive, or should I get a couple of lenses with fixed focal length? Given the crop factor, I need something with a relatively wide angle that can be used in-doors. No clue.

Budget for lenses would be around 500 euro, maybe 800 if it's really worth it (or dollars).

How about the SSD? Will a OCZ VTX4-25SAT3-256G do? how about Samsung 840 pro series?

No clue here either, I can't find specs about minimum read/write speeds for the BMCC anywhere :X

Another thing I need is some kind of handle/filter mount thingy (what do you call them?) I want at least something to put 2-3 filters on and maybe the possibility to connect an extra battery (v-mount?) to the camera, given the poor battery life and long startup time.

is there anything you can recommend?

oh and one more thing: what's the crop factor of the camera? what lens will I have to get to get a standard 50mm?

thanks in advance!

YOu need to explain what you are using your BMCC for and your budget.

I use the Samsung 840 pro, never had an issue with it so far. It is slimmer than the SSD bay in the camera, as a lot of modern SSDs are now. I don't think it makes a difference because it's so light.

You can also check out the sticky FAQ in this forum and use the search facility, to do lots of reading, which all helps.

Cheers,
Jules

About the SSD, save yourself the headache and get a SanDisk Extreme 240GB or 480GB. It's the drive that seems to work for most people.
