I scoured the internet looking for an explanation for how to install the Blackmagic provided REC.709 LUT (or your own custom LUT) into Media Composer 7, and couldn't find an answer, so I figured it out myself. I know there aren't a lot of Avid users on here, but hopefully it will be useful to someone.
First, you find the LUT (you have to unhide the library, and drill down into DaVinci's application support folders). Then, in Avid, you open the Color Management settings:
Click "Install LUT". It's easier to copy the LUT to the desktop and find it there, since Avid doesn't use standard finder windows for this step.
Then when you import BMCC footage (I used Wooden Camera's BMPCC test footage since I didn't have any footage on my laptop), you'll want to right click on the footage in your bin and select "source settings" which is how you get to MC 7's fancy new frame flex and color management settings.
From there I made source color space "Unknown" and in the lower drop-down I found the LUT I installed. Click apply and it will load.
Note, you can only apply these transformation in the bin view, so you'll want to do it to all your clips right after you import. Doesn't have to render anything.
Also, I am not 100% the LUT has loaded perfectly, I would have to do side-by-sides with Resolve, and I don't have my dongle with me.
If someone knows of something I did wrong, please let me know!
