Can I record into external drive outputting the video signal via the HDMI port from the BMCC and the Pocket version too?

Yes, you can record the cameras' 1920 x 1080 10-bit 4:2:2 HD video output to an external recorder or capture device.
Note: The output of the BMCC is HD-SDI (HDMI on the BMPCC).
