HyperDeck Shuttle Start/Stop for Arri Alexa

PostWed Aug 21, 2013 7:33 pm

Has anyone had success with the Hyperdeck Shuttle getting the record start/stop trigger out of an Arri Alexa? My unit with firmware 3.8 installed does not recognize the trigger. Based on an old press release from Blackmagic this feature was supposed to be available as of 2.5.

We have a Sound Designs PIX240i on set for playback which has no problems with the REC trigger out of the Alexa. I was also able to trigger the Hyperdeck Shuttle to REC using an SDI feed from the PIX240i so I know that the Hyperdeck unit is not faulty.

Any Ideas? Kinda disappointed in my new purchase if it can't do what was boasted!!

Here's what I've learned......

Presently the only way the ALEXA can trigger the Hyperdeck Shuttle is in Time Code Run mode with the ALEXA set to roll Time Code on REC. The problem for me is that the productions I work on Time Code is generated and controlled by the sound dept and the Alexa is set for Time Code to always be running in the SDI feed.

Hopefully in a future firmware upgrade they add an ALEXA compatible SDI Start/Stop trigger.

And on the topic of firmware upgrades - having a PRO RES 422 proxy (smallest) option and being able to edit or at least delete clips in the Hyperdeck would be pretty handy too. Space is a premium if you are only using the Shuttle for archival purposes and not for broadcast.
