Talkin' 'bout the BMPCC - Ned Soltz, Jem Schofield

PostThu Aug 22, 2013 1:10 am

Ned Soltz has tested the camera for a week and went out shooting with Jem Schofield for a day.
No footage but it's worth watching them talk about their experience with the camera.

Agreed. I'm curious if there's a built in limiter especially since there's no audio meters. Of course distortion vs crashing a limiter are both evils but the limiter is a lesser one.

Haven't had any issues with audio yet, just using the Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro, switched to HPF, +20db, and I have mic level at 80%, and each channel at 50%.

If you have something specific you want tested I'll give it a crack.

Ryan, just wondering if there's a limiter or, if there is one, how it's implemented (how hard for example)? Basically if the input is loud does it drive into distortion or does it hit a limiter wall?

Really, nothing new, only bla-bla-bla.... Jem wants coloured peaking (yellow, red, pink...), iso 100 on firmware upgrade, format card on camera. For him the pancake 14 is a soft crap lens. Come on... this guy sucks!

They mentioned that there's no expanded focus which isn't true. I'm assuming they thought it only had focus peaking.

They fixed the information about expanded focus in the text today. John Brawley corrected that in the comments.

How are the frequency responses? Does it sound hollow as on the BMCC 1.3 firmware or does it sound nice and full?

If you are willing, it would be great to hear maybe a 5 second audio clip..

Can't comment on the BMCC comparison as I don't have one yet, but I'll do some tests on the weekend and check it out.

That's not in the manual Paul, only how to enable peaking. How do you expand focus on the pocket?

To get expanded focus you double tap the OK-button (as said in the manual).

Thanks Peter, works like a charm. Where is it in the manual?

Kind of annoying it brings up the metadata in between but I'm sure thats a simple firmware fix.

Metadata entry on the go is cool, but just seems to make more sense on a touch screen. Pain in the neck with the little keys.
