BMCC Handheld simple rig that works the magic!

PostMon Sep 02, 2013 8:29 am

My Grid 5.0 arrived today as well with BMCC magnetic mount and couldn't be happier,it took less then 2min to work it out and attach.
Love the feel and viewfinder and from akward kind of camera to hold turns into "Handheld magic"
Light enough and balanced enough to get some really steady shots on Tokina 11-16.

This maybe an answer for event video and weddings !
Music video stuff for sure.

:D

Try it and you ll give up expensive heavy rigs ,this is maybe an answer for handheld work

Looks good!

Is the size perfectly matched with the BMCC´s lcd? How about the "iris" and "focus" buttons?

Thanks, glad you like it, yes fits perfectly and magnet is very powerful it sticks to perfect fit every time.
Can not believe it ,no matter how you try to put it in it always fits into the place 100% sharp on the edge.
Frame sticks to the outside edge around screen leaving just enough space for the buttons below and on the sides where "iris" and "focus" is magnetic frame is "cut out around buttons" so it doesn't cover them.
Will post pic from rear display with viewfinder removed, best of all is convenience when you need to use touch screen you just pull out viewfinder from magnetic frame in half the second you got it back on or off.

I had previously different rigs and monitors and all kind of gadgets only to find out that "Hoodman" on my 7D did most of "run and gun work" and BMCC after initial test form factor was my biggest draw back.
I found it bit too heavy coming from DSLR when I got it on hire with cage ,not even realising that most of the weight was from cage itself, so when my BMCC finally arrived I was bit shocked on how much lighter it felt.
This is when I started "fishing for the simple sturdy light viewfinder ,"Hoodman like".

Probably now after all the research and filming experience with it will end up buying 2nd BMCC MFT unit.(this one is EF).

Pocket or 4K is not for me given the BMCC abilities.

Yes LCDsize is perfect match for BMCC , when ordering mention that is for BMCC so they will send you custom BMCC magnetic frame.

I am guessing there's no diopter adjustment, is there?

Hi,
I saw this post would like to ask some questions. We are event videographers and thinking of getting the blackmagic cinema camera. With the cameras layout, is it possible to adjust the exposure or aperture while shooting or recording? How easy it is to move around and adjust exposure on the fly. We have Canon EF lenses and saw that it can be adapted to the BMCC.
With a setup like of the picture in this post, don't you need a portable mixer and mic to do weddings/events or an on board light instead? We have well balanced custom shoulder rigs for our Canon DSLR setup, its as heavy and function as a full size camcorder and would like to adapt the BMCC in the near future.
Thanks

I have the grid for my epic and want to get the frame for my bmcc as well....contacted them but haven't heard back.....god to hear that they are making a frame and that they are still around....will try them again....
The loupe is great...makes outdoor handheld shooting with the epic a lot easier....so it makes sense to use it with the bmcc as well.....
There is no diopter adjustment....

@Christian -No mate ,looks like they do have diopter adjastment but that ring on pic is "dummy" .

@Disc2 - Sure mic and light can be added from the top there is screw mount available , see pic posted ME66 K6 Sennheiser runs of battery no phantom needed(but ,yes it would be recommended) and can plug straight in ,you ll need XLR to 1/4 cable, audio levels monitoring would still be be issue here.

Personally on paid gig with this rig I d choose faster lenses if lighting is that low and record audio separate on H4N .

@ pss - Sure they do make them, please see photo attached and they posted very quick and fast, you are right on their website I couldn't even find this option had to dig stuff off the forums.

Cheers guys!

Hi Darko, Thanks for the info. Please let me know if is it possible to adjust the exposure or aperture while shooting or recording. Also, is the hdmi out clean? I would like to replace our canon dslr setup below.

Actually, I am short-sighted and with optical viewfinders (e.g. taking photos on a DSLR), I definitely need diopter adjustment if I'm not wearing glasses. Since this "viewfinder" attaches to an LCD though, I am wondering if I would even need diopter adjustment, since I can see things that are close to me without glasses? :|

How can you have a loupe with no diopter adjustment?

Does'nt make sense that you cannot focus on to the screen.

Maybe it's pre-focused to the distance between the lens and the screen?

Sure, iris works great during recording on my camera internally with Tokina 11-16,Canon 50mm 1.8II and Tamron 17-50 and off course all manual lenses wont have issue.

No HDMI ,instead has SDI with this spec:

SDI Video Output 1 x 10-bit HD-SDI 4:2:2 with choice of Film or Video Dynamic Range. When recording is set to 25p or 29.97p with SDI Overlays switched off, the SDI output format is 1080i50 and 1080i59.94 respectively.

Cheers
