Ursa Broadcast G2 Review

PostSat Dec 04, 2021 11:42 pm

A nice in-depth review from Ryan Somerfield:

Noise performance seems pretty well improved (up to Pocket 6k standards). Unfortunately, no information on rolling shutter performance in this video though. Also, as suspected, it seems that using the focus/zoom demands prevents you from streaming or recording to USB-C media (as the USB-C port can only handle one function at a time it seems).

Looking forward to seeing more footage from the Broadcast G2.

My fairly short feedback after receiving the Ursa Broadcast G2 today:

I was able to record in Q0 in 50p with no issues using 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro with a thunderbolt cable (the reading and writing speed I measured was around 930MB/s). On the other hand the generic cable that came with the SSD was peking at around 430MB/s as a result it caused couple of smaller glitches here and there.

As of writing that SSD is not on the Blackmagic recommended media list. However, I'm glad that everything seems to be working so far.

The rolling shutter is very noticeable, the same as on the Pocket 6k.

I am pretty impressed. The reason I went with the Ursa Broadcast G2 instead of the Pocket 6k Pro was mainly because of the new USB 3.1 Gen 2, PL Mount option, SDI and Q0 at 50p. It seems it was a right decision, at least for now.
